Pre-pandemic, all Fleet Feet St. Louis locations were proud to be drop-off locations for Shoeman Water Projects. Headquartered in Bridgeton, MO, their main focus is to provide clean water in communities in developing countries. They generated revenue to fund these water projects by collecting new and gently used shoes. Their shoe collection efforts improved our planet by keeping wearable, usable shoes out of local landfills and directing them to a secondary market for reuse both locally and globally. Unfortunately, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic they have discontinued collecting shoes. According to Shoe Crew member Kerry Schulte, "The global market for used shoes has changed significantly, as well as the tolerance for handling used shoes. In light of this change we are working on a new normal to support the global water crisis. We will be updating everyone shortly as to what our new business model will look like and how you can continue to be involved. We look forward to our next chapter and hope you will continue to support our effort to bring safe, clean water to thirsty people around the world." In turn, Fleet Feet is looking for another organization who could benefit from receiving shoes donated by ourselves and our customers. When that partner is indentifited we will post that information here.
