At Fleet Feet Chicago, your safety is our top priority. We carefully consider all factors before deciding to cancel group runs. While unpredictable weather is part of training, we will cancel workouts under the following conditions to ensure the safety of all participants, coaches, and staff:
We utilize both Accuweather and the National Weather Service apps.
Cold:

Actual temperature is below 0 degrees

Real Feel (Wind Chill) Temperatures below -15°F

Dangerous path conditions (icy, snowy, etc.)
Heat/Air Quality:

Heat index falls within the Danger or Extreme Danger zone (NWS Heat Index)

AQI is AQI 151+ (Fleet Feet Blog)
Severe Weather:

Dangerous weather conditions, such as ice storms, hail, high winds, tornado watch warnings etc.

Lightning is present in the event of a thunderstorm
Please note that it is ultimately you who decides to participate in group run functions and events - be sure you feel safe and comfortable with the weather conditions before participating. We do have the right to modify or change workouts depending on the weather conditions. We will not cancel if it is simply raining or snowing – you never know what it will be like on race day!
How We Communicate Cancellations for Run Clubs
Group workout cancellation notices will be posted on each store's individual Facebook and Instagram pages. Workout cancellations will often be a "game-time" decision or just before, so please check both leading up to the run. You may also call the individual store.
How We Communicate Cancellations for Training Programs
- Fleet Feet Training Programs (Winter Warriors, Spring Training, Summer Training, No Boundaries)
- Fleet Feet Boston Bound & Boston Qualify
- Fleet Feet Racing Team & Performance Marathon Training
We will do our best to notify participants of cancellations no later than one (1) hour before the scheduled start time, but conditions may require last-minute changes. Cancellation updates will be shared through the following channels:
- Program Specific Final Surge Social Walls
- Email notifications via the Final Surge platform
Key Notes:
- If a workout is canceled due to unsafe conditions, Fleet Feet Chicago/Fleet Feet Racing/Fleet Feet Training reserves the right to make this decision at any time, including during a session if the weather suddenly becomes hazardous.
- Training cancellations will only occur for dangerous conditions; sessions will not be canceled for typical rain or snow.
