It' 2021 and it's time for a change of scenery!!!
Take your running off road with our Getting Gritty on the Trails Program presented by Hoka. This is a 8 week jaunt into trail running is designed to keep you moving while shaken things up a bit! The program is designed to give road runners a change of pace & learn what FUN lies off the beaten path! We will learn the nuances of trail running such as strengthening those stabilizers muscles, picking up those feet, and staying mentally engaged and active in foot placement! Not to mention we'll get a chance to practice some Shinrin-Yoku while in motion!! WHAT?? Don't know what Shinrin-Yoku is??? Come to the trail info meeting and enjoy the opportunity to learn more about fun on the trails!

This program will educate on endurance training principles, hydration and nutrition techniques, body awareness, pacing, and trail running tactics. While our team will celebrate the finish of this training session with the Big Run 5K at Long Leaf Park, some of us will be running upwards 8+ miles as others begin just entering into the trails with shorter distances! Being able to run 1-2 miles would be helpful but no trail experinence is necessary.
The Program meets every Saturday starting April 6th (time tbd) with Tuesday evening! The Saturday workouts will last anywhere from 1-2 hours as we increase our mileage. The optional weekday runs will last roughly 1 hour and will require a headlamp or handheld light as the trails may be darkening by the time we run. In addition to the workouts there are educational clinics, newsletters keeping you up to date, nutrition tips, and expert coaching/mentoring to help inspire and motivate you on this training journey. Training Program Details:
INFORMATION SESSION: Tuesday, March 30th at 6:45pm outside Fleet Feet Sports
START DATE: Tuesday, April 6th at 6:30pm (Wrightsville Beach Park)
PRACTICE DAYS:
- Tuesday (starting April 6th) at 6:30 pm meeting at locations like WB Park or UNCW- running workout
- Saturday (starting April 10th) at 7:30 am at various trail locations - long run day
- $95, which includes:
- Training Program Shirt
- 8-week training program
- Big Run Registration
- Team comaraderie and a boatload of FUN!
