SYRACUSE, NY -- The 2015 Syrathon registration is now open for runners interested in an added bonus to participating in local road races.
What is Syrathon?
Syrathon is a series of road races held in the city of Syracuse. Participants register for Syrathon and participant in all or some of seven local races. To become a Syrathoner, participants must run their own personal marathon by accumulating 26.2 miles over the course of the series.
Participants can also become an UltraSyrathoner by running all seven of the races in the series to log a total of 35 miles.
Fleet Feet Sports, Saucony, C&S Companies and the Syracuse City Parks Department teamed up to bring together the seven established road races into the Syrathon Race series.
When are the races?
- March 7: Tipperary Hill Shamrock Run. 4 miles
- May 3: Dunn Tire Mountain Goat Run. 1.8 miles or 10 miles
- June 6: Paige's Butterfly Run. 3.1 miles
- Aug. 8: Valley Nature In The City Run/Walk. 4 miles
- Aug. 30: Inner Harbor 5K. 3.1 miles
- Sept. 13: Strathmore Parks Run. 4 miles
- Oct. 18: Eastwood Park-to-Park Autumn Run. 5 miles
Miss a race in the series? Creekwalk Fun Miles
Creekwalk Fun Miles allow Syrathon participants to add mileage to their total for free at untimed fun runs along the Creekwalk. Runs launch from the Inner Harbor parking area on Kirkpatrick Street and participants can earn up to nine additional miles. Participants must sign up for the fun runs, which will be held between 5 and 7 p.m. Dates for the runs have not yet been announced.
Syrathon registration procedure:
Step 1: Register for Syrathon:
Participants can sign up for the Deluxe Syrathon Race Series or the Standard Syrathon Race Series.
The Deluxe Syrathon Race Series costs $10 and participants receive a shirt when they register. Once completed, participants will receive a Syrathon finisher's medal and pint glass.
The Standard Syrathon Race Series is free. Participants do not receive a shirt or finisher's medal or pint glass.
To register for the free Standard Syrathon Race Series, visit the Fleet Feet website to fill out a registration form. To register for the $10 Deluxe Syrathon Race Series, visit runsignup.com to register and pay.
Step 2: Sign up for races:
Participants must register for each race individually by completing race registration forms/waivers provided by the race organization, and paying race fees. Eligibility for Syrathon finisher's prizes will be based on finisher lists provided by the timing companies.
Step 3: Visit the Fleet Feet Sports booth on race day:
Syrathon participants can register to win "Race Day" prizes at the Fleet Feet Sports booth located at each race. Winners will be contacted following the race.
Step 4: Complete the required mileage:
Participants must complete the required miles -- 26.2 or 35 miles. Times and placements in each individual race are not a factor.
