Starting Location: Rockwoods Reservation, 2751 Glencoe Rd, Wildwood, MO 63038 (trail head)
Parking Instructions - Drive all the way into the park towards the Visitor Center - our start/finish point will be closest to the building (near a stop sign) - if that lot fills up there are a few smaller lots near by that you can use and then meet us over by the building.
SIDE NOTE - Fleet Feet Marathon Training kicks off this weekend - those of you signed up for that are encouraged to finish up the trail program and then join your marathon groups as mileage we will be covering will either be roughly the same in effort if not more so than those first 2 runs...it is okay to miss those and run trails. If you decide to go straight to the marathon training instead, it has been a pleasure running with you all this season and best of luck with your spring training!
Short course: ~4.8 miles (1 loop)
Medium course: ~7.8 miles (3 loops)
Long course: ~12.8 miles (3 loops)
See map below for reference.
Everyone will run the 1st loop together, starting from the parking lot head out on the Trail Among the Trees (BLUE LINE) path directly across from the Visitor Center. The first 1/4 mile or so will be paved before turning to trail after some stairs. There will be another small stretch of pavement as we wind our way up a hill, and then at approx .9 of a mile in will be where we make a LEFT turn to take a connector path to the Lime Kiln Trail. At basically a mile or little over we hit the main Lime Kiln Trail, turn LEFT here and run this loop in a clockwise manner back to this spot, and then make the LEFT to go back to the Trail Among the Trees and back to the parking lot the way we came out....when you rejoin the paved trail ribbons will be marked if you make the RIGHT turn to head back the same way you ran out, but if you make a left instead that is about the same mileage, just all pavement as you head down hill....just make the right turn when back out on the road to head back to the Visitor Center.....no ribbons will be marked on that route if you go that way, FYI. Once back at the start the short course is complete.
For the second loop those going medium and long will head out going south from the Visitor Center and join the Rock Quarry Trail (LIGHT BLUE LINE) and run it in a clockwise manner as well. You will head up a long gradual hill, then level out for a while before descending some stairs and then gradual down hill and flat back to the start.
The third loop is where medium and long split - those going medium have simply a 1 mile loop to get in their mileage which starts right behind the Visitor Center (YELLOW LINE) with a short but steep uphill with a few stairs back up to the Rock Quarry Trail, then make the LEFT turn on that to run down that long gradual hill you ran up on that 2nd loop taking it back to the start....medium course is then finished! Those going long will run their final loop which is an out and back route along the Green Rock Trail (GREEN LINE) - there may be a ribbon or two on this route but not much as it is very straight forward with the path to follow...once you come out to the road crossing, simply turn around and run back the way you came. Long course is then finished after that.
