Map below. Everyone will run the 1st loop together covering the Dogwood Trail. From the start we will head out on the trail to our right which follows the yellow trail marker for approx 1/4 mile, at this point we will turn RIGHT to head up and cross over the road. Once across the road, look for the PINK ribbon at where you will turn RIGHT to hop onto the Dogwood Trail (a black and white trail marker). Follow this path down a hill a short ways and you come to a "T" intersection - make a LEFT turn here and simply stay to your RIGHT at all times as you will run the loop in a CLOCKWISE manner bringing you right back to the "T" intersection. Once back there, make the LEFT turn to head back up towards the road and then cross over, turn LEFT and you have roughly a 1/4 mile left to go in the loop. Short course runners are done as this is roughly a 3.1 mile loop.
Those going medium and long will head out for the 2nd loop which will cover the entire Eagle Valley Trail that follows BLUE trail markers. From the start simply head STRAIGHT down on the trail, as we will be running this loop in a COUNTER-CLOCKWISE fashion. The first mile of this loop is mostly downhill and single track. Towards the bottom is when the path widens up some and becomes a mix of dirt and rock. That 2nd mile is mostly flat but due to the flooding in the area the past few years there are some areas that are a bit rocky so just watch the footing, it is not as smooth like the Al Foster trail as it once was. After you go by the steeple barriers for the horses the path will make a hard LEFT and follow a creek bed for awhile before starting your ascent. The last 1-1.5 miles is uphill and then a mix of rolling to flat sections. As of Wednesday this week there were a lot of leaves down so just watch your step - the footing is pretty good but be sure to keep an eye open for a random root or rock that wants to say hi! Follow the PINK ribbon along this course till you come back to the parking lot at which point the medium course runners are done. Mileage for this loop is roughly 3.5, putting you at around 6.6 miles total at this point.
Those going long will have one more final loop that covers a little of the newer trails in the park. From the start head back out like we did on the 1st loop, only DO NOT cross the road, keep STRAIGHT and continue to follow the yellow trail signs. About a 1/2 mile into this loop is where you will see a couple out houses and the road Scenic Loop Road, the trail will make a LEFT turn and will then run parallel with that road for awhile. Just before the mile mark in this loop (roughly .9 or before) you will come to another "T" intersection, make a sharp LEFT to stay following the yellow trail markers. Follow this trail for about .4 of a mile to where you will see ORANGE ribbon and make a RIGHT turn to take the trail up towards the road. Cross the road and hop onto the trail. From this point we will be running a loop in a CLOCKWISE manner - turn LEFT here, and simply stay to your RIGHT at all times as it will bring you right back to this spot where you crossed the road. The loop itself is approx 1.5 miles and mostly downhill and good footing. Once you come back to the road crossing, cross over and then make your way back to the start going back the same way you came out. Mileage wise for this loop is roughly 4 miles or so, putting you at approx 10.6 miles total, give or take some.
