Run Description: SHORT COURSE = 1 loop / LONG COURSE = 2 loops
See map below for reference. Both course will run the first loop (PINK) going in a counter-clockwise manner starting from the playground parking lot. We will head back out along the road and cross over the creek, then taking the trail down the hill to our right, and enter the woods. We will be following signs for the Grotpeter Trail (blue markings) for awhile. Simply tay to your right any time you get a chance to take different paths for the first mile. Around the mile mark we will come to a 4-way intersection, stay to your right, this will take you up towards what is known as the Rollercoaster trail. There will be a few crossings over what will look like a service road, just keep straight on the trail through those. Shortly before the 2.5 mile mark we will come to another 4-way intersection, this time we will stay straight and pick up the trail that has #3 markings - this is also the midway/office connector trail as it will take us down a nice hill towards the park's main office. Nearing the bottom of this hill we will take a sharp right to hop onto a trail marked by #2 markings, and gradually work our way back up to the top. For those that need to bail for any reason at this point can simply avoid this turn and stay straight on the trail as it spits you out on the road by the office, then turn left to follow the road back towards where we started (approx 1/4 of a mile from here). Back on the course, follow the #2 trail all the way back up to where it comes out at Reis Rd, and cross the road to rejoin the Grotpeter Trail now. Once across the road, simply make every left turn you can as it will wind its way down and back up a hill before ultimately taking you down to Kiefer Creek Rd. Cross the road to stay on the trail and then take your first right to head towards the creek crossing - prepare to make a splash! Once past the creek, pick up the trail and just stay to your left as it follows along the creek and makes its way back to where we started. This completes the first loop and those running the short course are finished!
Those running long can stop to refuel if needed before heading out for the 2nd loop. From the parking lot, head towards the train tracks and go under them, then turn left to pick up the trail. This is also known as the River Scene Trail, once the trail spits you out by the river, follow the trail to your right so that the river is on your left side. Stay along this as it comes out by the beach and then winds itself around and out into a wide open grass field. After the trail crosses the field, enter into the woods and turn left on the trail and continue along, with the train tracks up on your right. Eventually the trail will come to a place full of benches, and signs warning to "Keep Out" just after a tunnel that goes under the train tracks (this is often referred to as the washed out section), go through the tunnel and turn right to head up the infamous wooden stairs. Along the way up has several cool spots for pics, but once to the top continue along the trail all the way up to the top of the bluffs, and once the trail starts to descend a little bit we will make a sharp left to hop on the Lone Wolf Trail (orange trail markings). There will be a partial wooden fence to your left at this turn. This path will take you up a short incline and by an stone structure before it winds its way back down the hill side towards the creek. At the bottom of this trail just keep straight or to your left any chance you get, and cross the creek for the 2nd time (this time from the other direction). After crossing the creek at the 4-way intersection turn right onto the trail and follow this path back along the creek till it spits you out back by the bridge near the parking lot we started and finish up.
Mileage for the short course will be roughly around 6 miles or so, with the long course being roughly 10 miles.
