Starting Location: Rockwoods Reservation, 2751 Glencoe Rd, Wildwood, MO 63038 (trail head)
Parking Instructions - When entering the park, drive all the way towards the Visitor Center (building will be on your left with a long parking lot) - our start/finish point will be closest to the building (near a stop sign) - if that lot fills up there are a few smaller lots near by that you can use and then meet us over by the building.
Run Description: 5 hours
To start we will run the Green Rock Trail first while we are fresh - this time though we will head out roughly 5 miles on it and then turn around back to Rockwoods Reservation. The previous time we were out here we ran this trail to the road crossing which is approx 3mi or just a little over out...cross the road to continue on the trail and eventually it will bring you into Greensfelder Park and join the blue Eagle Valley Trail where you will see all those horse jumps along the gravel path (we ran by those when we last ran at Greensfelder you may recall). Once the Green Rock Trail joins the Eagle Valley Trail (blue trail markings) keep STRAIGHT and to your LEFT to follow the trail till you hit the next road. This should be roughly 5 miles out or so. The plan will be to have a vehicle here for you all to grab anything you may need before heading back the same way you came.
Once we get back to the starting point in Rockwoods, grab anything you may need from the cars there and then I would suggest hitting the Rock Quarry Trail which we did not run last time - this one is the trail that goes up behind the Visitor Center there...it has some hills but is much better footing and easier on the body compared to the others....and is roughly a 2+ mile loop so depending on time you may just opt to run around that or you could hit up the Trail Among the Trees which starts right across from the Visitor Center (it is the trail we started on when we last ran). The first half is mostly trail, while the second half of it is all pavement heading down hill if you do the full loop of it.
This run is all about just getting the time on our feet - do not worry so much about distance on this run....this terrain will help keep the distance down for you with the challenges it provides which is selected on purpose. In theory, you'll probably be anywhere from 15-23 miles worth depending on how your feeling and what the course conditions are like. Enjoy your final big weekend as we start tapering after this weekend!
The map below highlights the Green Rock Trail for the 5 mile route. I also included the trail map we used the first time here earlier in the program which shows the 2 routes you ran then. The Rock Quarry Trail is shown but I did not highlight it that time - it is the red line path that is on the top left of the Green Star for your reference.
