Starting Location: Cuivre River Campground
Parking Instructions: Due to the roads within the park still being snow/ice covered and some steep hills access to the Beach Parking lot is not possible - we have been allowed to park in the main campgrounds lot accessed via the back entrance off of Walker Road. There are 30 campsites in the area but if you can car pool it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
10K = 2 loops (~5.5mi)
13.1 = 3 loops (~9.1mi)
50K = 5 loops (~17mi)
Everyone will run the same first 2 loops together, the first one being around the lake (LAKESIDE TRAIL) and the 2nd on the northern trail called BLAZING STAR TRAIL - both these loops in a CLOCKWISE manner. After that the 10K group is finished. The 13.1 and 50K groups will head out for the 3rd loop running around the lake again. Once finished the 13.1 group is done with their run.
Those in the 50K have 2 loops left, and will head back out north to run their 4th loop, in a COUNTER-CLOCKWISE manner...so run the BLAZING STAR TRAIL in reverse of what you did on loop 2, only this time we will also be adding on 2 additional side trails to increase the mileage a bit. Once back to the Beach Parking lot you can choose to head up the stairs to grab anything from the cars if needed or simply head back out on the LAKESIDE TRAIL one final time. This should put you roughly around 17 miles...either call it a day or simply add on a little extra somewhere to get the 18 that was planned, leave it up to you.
