Starting Location: Tremayne Shelter
Parking Info: Large parking lot. We will be joining with the road training teams within the Fleet Feet Running Club so be sure to check in with the Rock Runners when you get there.
10K = ~5-ish miles (1 loop)
13.1 = ~8-ish miles (1-2 loops)
50K = ~18-ish miles (3-4 loops)
Due to the crazy ice at Cuivre River we have decided for safety concerns to move locations and join the road group at Creve Coeur Lake. While we will start with them, after about 3/4 of a mile we will break off and take a gravel road up to the Bootlegger Trail and run on those trails as long as they are not a sheet of ice - if in the event that they are not runnable either we will head back down to the lake and simply run along the paved path and incorporate the two dirt trails below. Those in the 50K group are familiar with these as they ran them on a Sunday several weeks ago with their training.
We will adjust on the fly if needed....first plan of attack is EVERYONE runs along the paved path with the other training groups for 3/4 of a mile, I will be standing there to make sure everyone in the Rock Runners knows to turn LEFT to cross the road and take the gravel path up the hill...you should be close to or at a mile once we hit the intersection of the actual Bootlegger Trail. From there we will simply run the perimeter loop COUNTER-CLOCKWISE cutting out the two side loops....the close up map below of just the Bootlegger Trail which was from 2 weeks ago we will simply follow the YELLOW line marked on there....go in the opposite direction of the arrows marked on it. This is roughly 4 miles or so. Once we come back to the gravel path turn RIGHT to head down back to the lake and then cross the road and turn RIGHT to take the paved path back to the parking lot we started at. This concludes the run for those in the 10K group.
Those in the 13.1 and 50K have the option if you'd prefer to stay up on the Bootlegger and run a little more trail before heading back down simply continue on the trail in the COUNTER-CLOCKWISE manner and when you come to the road crossing simply turn around and head back to the gravel and then back down to the paved path and the parking lot. Should put you probably between 8-9ish miles.....or if you have a GPS run an extra mile or so and then turn back to the gravel path and down to the finish. This will complete the 13.1 group run.
For those in the 50K you can either head back up to the top and run there or if you'd prefer you can take the paved path back in the woods towards the gravel/dirt trail and run that loop. That gravel and dirt trail loop plus the little stretch of pavement under the highway is approximately 2.3 miles worth, the .3 being the paved stretch running under the highway, FYI. Running this flat route is roughly 6 miles worth from the starting point and back to it. We can see what the weather conditions are like the morning of and adjust if needed, just let your coaches and myself know ahead of time please.
I thank you for your understanding with this last minute change - we want to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience on the trails and after running at Cuivre River Friday morning this was our best option to avoid a 3rd week cancellation.
Below is the copy of the Bootlegger Trail map we would have used a few weeks ago - the YELLOW line is the 4 mile perimeter loop that I would suggest everyone start with on the 1st loop if the trails are good - just flip the arrows and run it COUNTER-CLOCKWISE.
