Starting Location: 1401 Kiefer Creek Rd., Ballwin, MO
Parking Instructions: Meet at the 1st parking lot on your left - next to the playground and large shelter. We will start the run at 7:30am (park gates typically are locked until after 7:00am for those early birds, just FYI). Additional parking can be found in nearby lots a short distance away.
13.1 - 2 loops (~6mi)
50K - 3 loops (~8mi)
Everyone will start off running counter-clockwise along the Grotpeter Trail (BLUE trail markings) by crossing over the creek from where we start and then taking the trail into the woods on our RIGHT. Roughly a 1/4 mile into the run we will turn LEFT at the trail marker letter "J" and head up a few steps. This is the "Fern Glen Connector Trail" and goes roughly .1-.2 of a mile to our next major intersection - stay LEFT and you will see a trail marker sign with the #4 on it. After about a half mile or so on this you come to the next major intersection - simply stay STRAIGHT on it as we continue to head towards Ries Rd. Once you see the road, DO NOT CROSS IT...rather make a sharp LEFT turn onto the trail marked with the #2 trail markers and follow this path all the way down to the Office Building by staying to your RIGHT all the way down. This path is also known as the "Mountain Ridge Connector". Once at the bottom, cross the road by the Office building and pick up the trail at the end of that small parking lot, turn LEFT on it and follow that trail all the way back to our starting point.
The 2nd loop everyone will run up to the top of the bluffs and follow that trail all the way towards the wooden stairs and go down them. At the bottom simply turn LEFT and follow the river for awhile. Eventually we will make a RIGHT turn to cut out into the wide open field and then the trail runs alongside the river once again, follow it all the way around and then once back to the road when you see the train tracks on your right side, turn RIGHT to head back towards our starting point. Those in the 13.1 group are done after this loop.
Those in the 50K will have a short and sweet 2mi loop which basically runs the REVERSE of what you just finished....so head back out along the River Scene Trail and when you cut through the wide open field again, once back in the woods this time turn RIGHT and it will take you straight back out to the road, then turn LEFT to head back to the parking lot to finish.
