Starting Location: 1401 Kiefer Creek Rd., Ballwin, MO
Parking Instructions: Meet at the 1st parking lot on your left - next to the playground and large shelter. We will start the run at 7:30am (park gates typically are locked until after 7:00am for those early birds, just FYI). Additional parking can be found in nearby lots a short distance away.
10K - 1 loop (~3mi)
13.1 - 3 loops (~10mi)
50K - 4 loops (~15mi)
Everyone will run the same first loop together, starting out along the River Scene Trail taking the road further into the park, going under the train tracks and then jumping on the trail to your LEFT. Take this till when you see the river and then follow the trail to your RIGHT, keeping the river on your left basically the entire way. Briefly it will put you on a paved path, stay to your left on that and you come out by the beach front area...keep straight here to rejoin the trail. This will wind its way around and put you in the wide open clearing...stay STRAIGHT as you cut across there and re-enter the woods, then turn LEFT on the trail and you will notice that the train tracks are now running parallel with you on your right hand side. Simply follow this till you come to a small tunnel that allows you to go under the train tracks and then you come to the stairs. Go up and follow the path along the edge of the bluffs the rest of the way. We will take the main, wide path down from the bluffs which will spit you directly across from the parking lot we started at. Those in the 10K group that concludes your run!
Those in the 13.1 and 50K can regroup if needed and grab anything before heading out for your 2nd loop which is just a tad over 4 miles in length. From the parking lot head out on the road back over the creek and then take the trail on your RIGHT. Shortly in the woods when you come to a trail marker (letter J I believe) you will make a LEFT turn and head up a short set of steps...and then continue on a short but steep climb. This trail will also have #5 trail markers along the way but it is also a super short one - roughly .2-.3 of a mile. You will come to a wide 4-way intersection, simply keep LEFT and then you will be on a trail marked with the #4. Follow this for about a half mile or so till you come to another 4-way intersection and you will again turn LEFT onto what is marked with the #3 - this is also the Midway/Office Connector Trail (there is a sign for it). This will be flat briefly and then becomes a long rocky downhill so watch the footing. At the bottom you will make a sharp RIGHT to then head back up a gradual dirt path hill which is also marked with #2. This takes you all the way back up to Ries Rd...once at the road head STRAIGHT over the road and simply make any LEFT turn you can all the way around till you come out down by Kiefer Creek Rd. Cross the road here to stay on the trail and then when you can you will make a RIGHT turn to head towards a creek crossing...YAY...cross the creek and then when you are on the trail we will head LEFT to take it back towards the parking lot to finish up.
Gather anything you need or regroup if needed before heading out for your third loop (both 13.1 and 50K) - this one is the EXACT SAME as the 1st loop. Once you finish this then the 13.1 group is done with their planned mileage.
Those in the 50K will then head out for your 4th and final loop of roughly 5.1 miles so be sure to get anything you may want/need. You will start out the same way you did for loop 2, only once you head up the trail #5 short steep hill and hit that 4-way intersection you will stay STRAIGHT and to the RIGHT slightly to then be along the Grotpeter Trail (blue trail markings) and take this path towards what is listed as the Roller Coaster Trail on the map below, following it around till you come to the 4-way intersection with the Midway/Office Connector sign where you will then stay STRAIGHT to take trail #3 down and then finish up the same as you did on loop 2. So your only new portion is early on in the loop, the rest is the same as before.
