Starting Location: 505 Washington Ave, Glencoe, MO 63038
Parking Instructions - The plan is to commute to the start due to the size of our group and the limited parking spaces. Plan on meeting at the La Salle Springs Middle School (3300 Missouri 109, Glencoe, MO 63038) parking lot starting at 6:45am. We will leave that lot promptly at 7:00am to head to the trail head. The parking lot by the playground is paved and has bathrooms and approx. 30 parking spaces - this will be where we will drive to from the Middle School lot, and then walk/jog on over to the gravel lot and start the Al Foster Trail.
Short Group: (see below) From the main parking lot, head out along the gravel path which crosses over the road shortly into it, then once at the "T" intersection turn LEFT which eventually begins to run parallel with the mini train tracks. Take the main Al Foster trail all the way out to the Sherman Beach parking lot (stay on the gravel path, do not run up the paved Zombie Trail that we ran the last time out here). Just after the parking lot take a LEFT and follow this trail up a short hill, then make a RIGHT to continue running along that parallel to a paved road. Eventually you can make a slight LEFT turn to cross over the paved road, do that and pick up the gravel path on the other side and continue into Castlewood. You will see a spot on your right that will have orange and pink ribbon - ignore this for now, you will be running in a clockwise manner and that is where you will come back out later as you head back to finish. Shortly before the 4 mile mark is where you will see a sign for CEDAR BLUFF VIEW trail - keep RIGHT and don't take that path - that is for the long course runners only. Stay on the main trail till you come out near the river and we will make a RIGHT turn to now start heading back. Easy to remember, keep the river on your left side as you head back until you see a bunch of pink ribbon taking you away from the river - ignore the orange ribbon you see as those running long will be cutting in and out of the inner trails, short course is not going on those. Once you make that final turn to head away from the river, take that path back to the Al Foster trail (this was what you saw heading out) and turn LEFT to head straight back the same way you came from the start.
Mileage: 9.1 miles approx.
Long Group: (see below) Start off the same as the short course for roughly the first 3.8 miles or so. Once at the CEDAR BLUFF VIEW trail sign, turn left to head under the train tracks via a tunnel. Once through you will take the trail to your LEFT as you will now run a clockwise loop and return to this point, then head back thru the tunnel and rejoin the main trail. Back at the main trail, turn LEFT to continue towards the river and then make the RIGHT to start heading back (this is also near the washed out area so if you forget to make the right turn you will see signs that say KEEP OUT, simply turn around and head back on along the trail that follows the river side). Following ORANGE ribbon, you will be making a zig-zag path back along the river using the inner trails (see the map). The last one will also be rejoining what the short course is running so you will see both pink and orange ribbon - that path will take you back out to the main Al Foster trail, turn LEFT and now you head back the same way you came out only once you get back to where you'd turn towards the parking lot you started at, keep STRAIGHT and run the out and back portion (this adds about a mile) and then turn LEFT and head back to the finish.
Mileage: 13.1 miles approx.
