Course Description: ~5mi | ~9mi | ~12mi
Short Course = 2 loops
Medium Course = 4 loops
Long Course = 5 loops
*Below is the modified course map after marking it Friday due to flooded trails.
Everyone will start off running UP the River Scene Trail as the views up top will take your breath away...literally. :) Once up top, enjoy the wonderful views and simply keep to your left along the bluffs, there will be some PINK flags to help. When you come to a wooden fence that has a sign for bikes to stay RIGHT - turn right and hop onto the Lone Wolf Trail. There will be a YELLOW trail marker with the letter "A" there as well, and several PINK flags to mark this. Now you have roughly a half mile gradual downhill. Once at the bottom keep LEFT and it will bring you to the creek crossing. Either all the flooding brought in a lot more rock or it was all dumped there, but not much of a creek crossing anymore sadly - there is some water at least to get wet! Once through that you rejoin the Grotpeter Trail, turn RIGHT with the PINK flagging and follow that trail all the way back to the start to complete the loop. This is roughly 2 miles worth. (PINK FLAGS)
For the 2nd loop you will run reverse of what you just finished for about a 1/4 mile back to the Office Building, there turn RIGHT to head up through the parking lot and cross the street to pick up the trail. Keep LEFT at the split and follow that trail all the way up to Ries Road (this is marked with #2 trail markings along the way). Once at the top, cross Ries road and make EVERY LEFT turn you can till you come out to the bottom and have to cross Kiefer Creek Road! After crossing the road you will turn RIGHT to hit up the creek crossing again, after crossing it you will make a LEFT on the trail and then veer slightly RIGHT....after that you will keep LEFT at a few more junctions to take this trail all the way back to the parking lot to finish (the trail will run alongside the creek, so just keep that to your left). This is roughly 3.5 miles and completes the short course. (ORANGE FLAGGING)
Loop 3 is simply a repeat of loop 1, those going MEDIUM and LONG will run this again. PINK FLAGGING once again.
At the conclusion of the 3rd loop, those going MEDIUM have about a mile or so left to get their total mileage - you have two options: run out roughly a half mile with loop 4 and then turn around (this is basically at the first hairpin turn on trail #2 after you've crossed the road, wanna say there is a bridge there)....OR....you can run along the road (see loop 5), or the edge of it, back further into the park till it dead ends at the beach front, then turn around and come back the same way. Either way this gets you that extra mile or so to finish closer to 9 miles. No markings on either one of those options, FYI.
Loop 4 - LONG course only. This is a repeat of loop 2 again, following the ORANGE flagging. You may or may not have some going the medium course join you for the first half mile of this before turning around.
Loop 5 - LONG course only - run out along the road or the edge of it further into the park to the beach front and then back. This is roughly a mile out and back to complete the long course.
