Starting Location: River Scene Trail
Parking Instructions: Meet at the 1st parking lot on your left - next to the playground and large shelter, directly across from the River Scene Trail head. We will start the run at 7:30am (park gates typically are locked until after 7:00am for those early birds, just FYI). Additional parking can be found in nearby lots a short distance away.
10K - 2 loops (~4mi)
13.1/50K - 3 loops (~7mi)
Everyone will start off running from the parking lot back out over the creek along the road, then turn LEFT onto the Grotpeter Trail (you will see official blue trail markings for this trail along the way). Follow this trail out past the office building and then when we come to a 4-way intersection at roughly a half mile or more out turn LEFT towards the creek crossing (there will be a sign even saying to the creek crossing). We cross the creek and now pick up the Lone Wolf Trail (this one is blazed with yellow trail markings) and make a RIGHT turn on this trail upon crossing the creek. Simply stay to your RIGHT at all times here and eventually you will start to go up the hill side....it is roughly a half mile to the top where you will now be up along the bluffs. Once you come out on the bluffs you will make a LEFT turn to begin heading back towards the parking lot....there will be two paths you can take at times here....either way is fine, you get better views if you keep RIGHT along the bluff's edge as you head back....there will be a bunch of flagging to note when to stay LEFT for the final descent to the parking lot....we will take the wider and more direct path down to the lot...there should also be sign saying "ONE WAY" as bikes are not to go down, only come up. Once at the bottom you will be directly across from where we started so if you need anything at the parking lot feel free to grab it or drop stuff off. PINK FLAGGING
The 2nd loop everyone will run as well, this time taking the road further into the park and passing under the train tracks. Once under those we will take the trail on our LEFT which is the River Scene Trail (blazed in red markings). Once you can see the river turn RIGHT so that you will be running with the river on your left hand side. Simply follow the trail all the way around (you will have to run along a brief paved section) till you come out to a wide open clearing. Side note - when you see the trail marker with the letter "F" that is approx 1 mile and roughly the midway point of this loop. Once you get to the clearing simply go STRAIGHT across it to enter the woods again and then turn RIGHT which will take you back to the road - there will be multiple paths to take, easiest way is to simply just keep to your LEFT as you make your way to the road, then once on the road turn LEFT to head straight back to the parking lot. The conclusion of this loop is it for those in the 10K program. Those in the 13.1 and 50K will have one more slightly longer loop to do so if you need to get anything before heading out or regroup with others now is the chance. PINK FLAGGING
Those in the 13.1 and 50K will start their 3rd and final loop by heading out towards the creek along the road but BEFORE crossing it take the trail on your LEFT (this will be the Lone Wolf Trail). Simply follow this trail by staying to your RIGHT and follow ORANGE flagging till you come back to the creek crossing - turn RIGHT to cross through the creek again and once through it you will turn LEFT on the Grotpeter Trail to take it to your first road crossing. After you cross the road we will turn RIGHT onto trail #1 (on the map it is listed as "Justin's Trail" but you will see markings with the #1 on the trail). Take this up to the top and it will rejoin the Grotpeter Trail at trail marker "C", turn RIGHT and follow it down and then back up (simply keep RIGHT the entire time....there is a spur off to your left as you make your way up to Ries Rd, if you turn there it just takes you out to the sidewalk and out of the park...don't go that way). Once at Ries Rd, cross the road and stay to your RIGHT to take trail #2 (listed as Mountain Ridge Connector on the map but you will see trail markings with the #2 on it) all the way back down towards the office building. Easiest thing to remember is simply keep RIGHT all the way down to the road. Once at the road and office simply head STRAIGHT to pick up the Grotpeter Trail at the end of the parking lot here...then turn LEFT to take it all the way back to the starting point to finish up. That completes the run! ORANGE FLAGGING
