Priorities dictate our lives. Whatever you place the most importance on, it will dominate your day-to-day decision-making. In the health and wellness spectrum, the conversation ultimately turns to whether an athlete is optimizing performance or optimizing enjoyment.
We need to cultivate a love for our sport, but we all judge our processes by the time issued by the race clock. So when we are training, is it because we enjoy the process or is it because we enjoy the end result? Are we running for product or running for passion?
There is a time and place for both. The process is the reward, the validation of which is the personal record or best time. So we run, not just to be reinsured by a PR, but because we know what it takes to get there brings the most satisfaction. There is nothing wrong with striving for optimization, just remember the enjoyment associated with the process of obtaining it.
Run well,
