Inspire the love of reading thru the love of running!
In partnership with the Nashville Chapter of Black Men Run and Transformation Life Center help Black and Brown boys improve reading proficiency, outrun childhood obesity and live fuller, healthier lives.
Reading Proficiency Matters: Reading is the basic building block of all learning. We model and support positive reading habits to help generate hope for academic success and beyond. Additionally, there is a clear correlation between reading proficiency and poverty when it comes to high school graduation rates and unfavorable outcomes.
Finding and Stats: About 16% of children who are not reading proficiently by the end of 3rd grade DO NOT graduate from high school on time – a rate four times greater than that for proficient readers.
This Spring you can make a difference by volunteering to be a reading buddy, a running buddy or both! Register to be a volunteer and make plans to attend the kickoff session on Tuesday, March 7th at Preston Taylor Ministries (Rolling Hills) 4300 Park Avenue, Nashville, TN 37209.
