We're hopeful that Zoomerangs will be back this Fall - waiting on approval from the town. If so, the season will run from October 3 - November 20. Practices are usually Sunday afternoons at Conard HS (but that is subject to change depending on other town activities)
(NOTE: Limited registrations will be available in order to comply with local regulations and COVID safety protocals.)
ZOOMERANG KIDS RUNNING PROGRAM
Sunday's from October 3 - November 20 (8-weeks) -- Conard High School
If your kids like to run, we've got a fun program just for them: Zoomerangs! This non-competitive "open track" program is designed for kids aged 3-12. It gives them the opportunity to experience running in a fun, friendly atmosphere where the motto is "Will run for worms" (gummy worms, that is!).
It's a great place for kids to run safely, correctly using good form, make friends and get stronger/build endurance so they can perform better in other sports (or rock the mile in gym class). Most of all, our goal is to empower kids to accomplish their goals and instill in them a lifelong love of running. It's also a great opportunity for mom and dad to spend quality time with your kids - and get in shape too.
Practice will look a little different this spring, but we will do everything we can to balance fun with the need for safety. The biggest changes involve limiting te size of our program to allow for social distancing, mask wearing when not running, a new way to count laps and get post-practice rewards and treats.
This season, we will be splitting the younger and older kids (if you have children in different age groups, you may stay together in one group of your choosing) and staggering the start times. Kids aged 3-6 will practice on the track from 4-4:30pm, while kids aged 7-12 will meet and run on the grass field behind the track from 4:15-5:15pm. In addition to creating a fun cross-country loop of ~1/2 mile in length, we are also planning on some fitness fun to kick-off practice to help build our core strength and get our heart rates pumping!
Coach Jack will be joining us again, but we're going to outfit him with big foam fingers so he can high-5 the kids safely.
As usual, parents are encouraged to run with their kids...if they can keep up!
It is very likely that there will not be a formal race for the kids to run to cap off their season. In this case, we will do our best to create our own race-day experience/victory lap!
