Bones Adventure Series: Self-Distanced Trail Run and Mountain Bike Events

What is this Series?

The Bones Adventure Series is a self-distanced event held over 4 weeks, in the foothills surrounding Sacramento, CA. We have both a XC mountain bike series and a trail running series and invite you to participate in either or if you are a badass, both.

How is this different from any other “virtual” events these days?

First and BIGGEST difference: you're competing on the same Stage as everyone else. Only, you’re able to ride or run it whenever and however many times you want. On your own! Each Stage takes place over a weeklong time window. Go as many times as you’d like to hit your best time.

Second difference is the way the Stages work. They’re mostly loops. So wherever you first enter the Stage becomes your start-finish line. That being said, our Stage maps start and end in a specific place. So, if you are using maps, then you’ll need to edit them if you plan to start/finish somewhere else.

Another big difference is you are riding/running in the real world, so you gotta stay 6 ft apart from all other participants, and trail users! PERIOD. We care about you and others' safety.

How does it work?

  • You can enter any of the Stages, or all of them.

  • The Series consists of four stages, a new one each week.

  • You’re competing against other riders and/or runners, just not at the same time.

  • For each Stage, you’re welcome to do as many attempts as you'd like during the Stage window. Each window will start at 12:01 am PDT on Sunday and end at 11:59 pm on the following Saturday (7 days).

  • If you aren’t familiar with the area and/or Stage, load the Stage onto your device by downloading it from the web page prior to your attempt.

  • Wherever you start on the Stage is your start/finish line. So, you don’t need to start your activity tracker when you start your effort. Turn it on before you begin, and just jump on into the Stage. As soon as you are on-Stage, that’s your start line, and your finish line.

  • Track your attempts using your GPS-enabled activity tracker or smartphone.

  • Sync efforts either by exporting a GPX file from your activity tracker or smartphone. You can also automatically sync using your Strava account.

  • You must register for the stage before attempting it, for it to count in the standings. (no running it first, and then registering).

  • You must follow the published Stage closely. If you deviate from the Stage by 200 meters or more, your attempt will be excluded from the rankings.

  • Your fastest attempt counts during the time window.

  • Attempts must be submitted within 24 hours from the time the attempt has started.

  • Login and track your progress on the leaderboards and activity feed.

  • The Series calculates scores for all efforts during the 4-week series timeframe. Participants who have the lowest cumulative time in each category will be eligible for prizes.

So, go out and crush it!  And don’t forget your GPS device….
