Welcome to Fleet Feet Coeur d'Alene's Winter Warriors!
Winter Warriors is our free winter run/walk group we hope helps keep folks moving and motivated through what can be a challenging season to have fun staying fit in the Inland Northwest. For the past 15 years we've gathered at the store on Tuesday and Thursday nights and Saturday mornings and headed out together to take on whatever Mother Nature threw at us.
The 2020-21 Winter Warriors season, arriving as it does amidst a viral pandemic, presents challenges to our traditional group paradigm. We can't safely have large gatherings inside the store, and with our group sometimes exceeding 60-70 people it wouldn't be responsible for us all to gather all at once somewhere else indoors or out.
But with the challenges also come opportunities to enhance the program, expand its reach and make it more inclusive. We're excited about these things and eager to share them. So as much as we'll miss -- for this year, anyway -- the thundering herd tramp out the door at the store as we scale back our meetings and go semi-virtual for this WW season, we're eager to get going!
This season we will use the Fitvil platform to register for Winter Warriors, sign in and out of each workout (and keep track of WW points!) and share information and updates as we make our way through the winter.
The easiest way to sign up is to go to Fitvil.com on your computer, register on Fitvil, then search for Fleet Feet CDA’s Winter Warriors and sign up for that. It’s all free.
Once you’ve created your account on the computer you should have easy access to the group via the Fitvil app and have the ability to check in/out, post messages, view route maps and read Winter Warrior news and updates.
Winter Warriors 2020-21 works like this: We roll Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays.
Outside. The program runs from November 17 to Jan 30.
We "meet" by checking in via Fitvil. We run or walk individually or in whatever small, safe, appropriately socially distanced groups participants may form amongst themselves, either on the suggested course for the day or a route of one's own choosing.
Like always, it does not matter how far or how fast we go, just that we get out and do something. Participants get Winter Warrior Points for every check-in, and WW Points accumulate to win free stuff.
We'll have suggested courses for each run/walk, including the traditional WW routes in the downtown CDA area. New this year with Fitvil is the ability to check in to WW and do the workout anywhere via the mobile app or your home computer, so you can run or walk solo or meet with friends at a convenient time and place.
Some things have not changed. Our motto is still, "There's no such thing as bad weather, just soft people (Bill Bowerman)." And our number-one rule remains, "No Whining about the weather."
