Overuse injuries are extremely common in running as the activity requires a lot of repetitive movement and shock absorption. What you may not be aware of is the correlation between your running form causing you to become more prone to injury over time. Unfortunately there is no textbook, one-size-fits-all approach to proper running form and each and every person has a unique gait. There are ways to build strength and correct your form, but the process should be treated individually and ideally with a professional who has a deep understanding of biomechanics, strength training, and mobility.
Understanding your running form and your strengths and weaknesses can be helpful to set you up for success, whether you're dealing with persistent pain, starting your running journey for the first time (or returning after a break), or wanting to become a stronger and more efficient runner.
Here are some great clinics that offer gait analysis:
The Run Mechanics | 3801 North Capital of Texas Highway Suite I-100, Austin, Texas 78746 | 512-596-5535 | TheRunMechanics262@gmail.com
Dr. Daniel Toback PT, DPT, OCS
Run Lab Austin | 2 Locations: 2305 Donley Dr Suite 106, Austin, TX 78758 (North) & 716 W US Hwy 290 Service Rd, Austin, TX 78735 (South) | 512-266-1000 | scheduling@runlabaustin.com
Additionally, if you are currently undergoing physical therapy, you may want to consult with your clinic to see if they offer gait analysis services.
