The updated New Balance 1080 has not made any drastic changes to the previous version. That is a good thing, because the 1080 has become one of the most comfortable daily trainers on the market. Fresh Foam X in the midsole continues to allow for a nice, soft feel on slower recovery and long runs, but provides responsiveness and “pop” for your faster efforts. The 1080 v11 is versatile and continues to provide a buttery smooth ride at all paces. Although the midsole has not changed from version 10, there have been a few tweaks to the upper. First, the stretchy, knit-like mesh gives a little less, but appears to be more durable. Next, the toe box has been opened up a smidge. Finally, version 11 loses the embroidery around the medial and lateral sides of the arch in favor of a big logo “N.” These small changes appear to make for a more durable shoe. If you have been using the 1080 v10 as your daily trainer, you will not be disappointed in version 11. If you haven’t given this shoe a try, you are in for a treat. They are arriving at Fleet Feet Albany & Malta in early February.
