The New Balance FuelCell 5280 is your newest race-day weapon.
New Balance runner Jenny Simpson debuted the FuelCell 5280 in 2018, proving on the road that the shoe can fly.
Designers created the New Balance 5280 for short races—the shoe is named after the number of feet in a mile. Those short races require power and blazing top-end speed, so New Balance tailored the shoe to enhance both those qualities.
A multi-directional carbon fiber plate flexes and loads when your foot hits the ground, and then it releases that power on toe off for a propulsive ride. Beneath the plate, New Balance used FuelCell foam to cushion each step. FuelCell is New Balance’s most responsive foam compound, which works with the plate to give you the pop you need.
Draped in a lightweight and functional Hypoknit upper, the New Balance FuelCell 5280 is tailored for speed.
