Brooks Ghost Max 2 Review: A Softer, Smoother Spirit
Can the Ghost Max 2 delight our reviewers with its thick stack of DNA Loft v3 cushioning? Or will it haunt us for miles to come?
Step up your run with the Brooks Ghost Max 2. Designed for unparalleled comfort and smooth transitions, this max-cushioned trainer is the elevated version of the fan-favorite Brook Ghost.
A DNA Loft v3 midsole delivers plush support perfect for long runs or everyday training, while the GlideRoll Rocker system gives you effortless strides.
“These are just the ticket for some easy miles. The fat stack of DNA Loft v3 foam strikes a really nice balance of soft and firm, something I’ve been looking for in a long run shoe,” says Max during our Brooks Ghost Max 2 review.

“Thanks to a thick stack of DNA Loft v3 cushioning, the Brooks Ghost Max 2 is a stellar choice for runners who thrive in a moderately soft shoe with a balanced ride. If you like high-stack shoes without the squishy feeling, the Ghost Max 2 is for you,” says Caroline in our Ghost Max 2 review.
It can accommodate a wide variety of foot shapes and is a great choice for anyone who prioritizes comfort and protection over all-out speed.

Ghost Max 2 changed the model narrow compared to last year’s model. Returned. Wish the shoe manufacturers would keep last year’s model and make a new model so people have a choice.. I couldn’t wear them for walking to get the full effect .
Very comfortable and great for walking
I normally use Brooks Ghost and Glycerin and wanted a change. Ghost Max 2 was found to be a little more snug, but with thinner socks, comfortable. Ran a 3.5 miler and was pleased in cushioning around ankle and upper material. Looking forward to longer runs and see how well the shoes continue to feel.
It is a cushioned, comfortable fit for my feet.
Brooks Ghost was my go to but the 12mm drop kept forcing my toes into the tips of the shoes (regardless of anchoring by the tying technique.) Painful. The new lower drop on Ghost Max helps tremendously as does the higher foam. And, the foam is NOT as ridiculously high as other manufacturers. And, Fleetfeet delivers so quickly I feel extra special!
Cushiony! Good fit.
Love them enough to buy 4 pairs!
The shoe is SO comfortable and stable. I also rarely find a shoe that my ankle brace fits inside. I have been looking a long time. My only complaint is the "black/pink ice" colored shoe isn't really accurate. It looks more pink on the computer. I found some purple shoestrings and now I am happy! Also, the young man who helped me at the Richardson Campbell and Coit store was so very helpful!
Perfect! This is my second pare.
