Altra Superior 5
Features
The Altra Superior 5 promises that your next trail run will be nothing short of superior.
With an updated upper that offers a secure yet breathable fit, the Superior 5 makes light work of technical trails. Along with an improved fit, the Superior 5 upper also allows hook-and-loop gator attachment to further protect you from water and debris while you run.
A fan-favorite feature of the Superior 5 is the removable StoneGuard rockplate that allows the shoe to easily transition from soft surfaces to more technical terrain. The rockplate works with Altra’s specially designed MaxTrac outsole to provide multi-directional traction and protection from uneven terrain. Altra Quantic midsole foam creates the responsive, nimble feel signature to the Superior 5.

Wish the 5 had stuck around.
This is by far my favorite Altra. I like the flex in the materialiver the toes
No cushy but functions pretty good
One of the few that didn’t crowd toes or hurt heels.
Not their best
Loved the Altra Superior 4.5...thought I had found my next shoe! However when I couldn't find the 4.5 again I went with the 5. Minor design changes have made the shoe very irritating. For one the tongue bunches up. But the worst part are the extremely long smooth laces. I found myself retying the laces three times in one hour! They slip and must be quadruple knotted to stay short enough to not drag. I would think for high level running/trail shoes the least they could do is have solid workable laces.
