[Looking for the latest version? The women's Altra Rivera 2 is available now.]
Delivering the signature Altra fit with a sleeker look, the women's Altra Rivera is an easy-riding everyday trainer that fits your style.
Altra built the Rivera around its FootShape toe box. Designers shaped the toe box to more closely mimic the real shape of a human foot, which gives you more space in the forefoot to let your toes sit and splay naturally.
A proven EGO midsole powers the Rivera. Altra’s EGO foam composition gives you soft landings on pavement, but it provides an energizing response for a lively ride.
In the Altra Rivera review, Fleet Feet runners praised the shoe’s modern aesthetic and sense of ground feel on the run.
Like all Altra running shoes, designers built the Rivera on top of Altra’s zero-drop Balanced Cushioning platform. The drop measures the difference in height between the heel and forefoot; the Rivera is the same height from heel to toe, which puts you in a more natural stance.
The new women's Altra Rivera maintains the fit and feel you expect with a sleek new look and snugger fit than other models in the lineup.

I love my Rivera Altra shoes. The fit is great. I tried on numerous brands such as Brooks, On Cloud, and Saucony. All of these brands felt good to my feet but not great. This is the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn. I have another style of the Altra, but this Rivera is my most comfortable. I can walk in them or stand on ceramic tile floor cooking for hours in them and my feet do not bother me. If your feet like to be flat on surface, try these shoes. It was a pleasure dealing with Fleet Feet.
Love these shoes!
These shoes are fantastic. I’ve had several surgeries on my ankle and need extra support when running and walking. These zero drop shoes have made it possible for me to exercise without pain! They are very cushioned and comfortable!
Altra for first time runner/daily shoe
This shoe is overall very comfortable with good support and cushion with 0drop for my feet. I am starting to run and it gives enough support with breathability and grip for runs. I did have to do achilleas exercises to help stretch because of the pain in my feet and doesn't wear these everyday to get my feet slowly to strength and get use to zero drop. When the package came it came quickly but the shoe itself was a tiny bit damaged (smudges of logo) but not enough to want to exchange them.
My toes can wiggle
I stand 12 hrs a day a few days a week. Best shoe by far. I no longer walk like an old lady after getting these.
I’m pleased with my new Altra Rivera shoes. I started in the Alta plush but the way the laces were cut caused rubbing on top of my foot where they crease when walking. So onto the Rivera which don’t have seams under the lace, hence no rubbing. Nice wide toe box and a sleek look. The zero drop was easy to get used to. I just wish they had a little more heel cushioning like the plush. Fits true to size.
