Altra Timp 5 Review
Featuring a new Vibram outsole, we agreed that the Timp 5 was the grippiest version yet. But can it stand up to any terrain?
Fit Tip: Altra recommends sizing up by ½ size for more volume, or if you are in between sizes.
Conquer the trails with confidence in the Altra Timp 5.
This trail shoe gives you everything you need to successfully run and hike in the great outdoors. Comfortable and cushioned enough to spend hours (or days) on your feet, it also offers incredible grip for technical terrain. We tested it on snowy roads and technical mountain trails and had nothing but praise for the traction of this shoe in our Altra Timp 5 review. Plus, Altra’s signature wide toe box gives your toes plenty of room to splay for better balance on uneven trails.

Featuring a new Vibram outsole, we agreed that the Timp 5 was the grippiest version yet. But can it stand up to any terrain?
Unfortunately, over the years with each new model of any of my Altra run or trail shoe models they have become more and more “typical” in fit and function. They were once a tremendous alternative w wide toe box supple uppers and soles , no arch no heel drop. And just enough cushion to save your foot but feel the ground. Now….all those things that attracted me to the brand have slowly gone more middle of the road average shoe style. Stiffer, less roomy, too much cushion and less feel of contact w the ground. I’m out! Time to start hunting for a new brand.
