[Featured in our Best Trail Running Shoes Guide]
The Altra Lone Peak 4.5 is the latest edition of Altra’s original trail running shoe, and it’s the best yet.
Altra trimmed down the new model for improved flexibility and comfort without compromising the shoe’s classic fit and feel.
Designers embedded a StoneGuard rock plate into the midsole for lightweight protection against jagged rocks and roots, and multi-directional outsole lugs give you superior grip on unpredictable trails.
A 25 mm stack height provides ample cushion for a comfortable ride, so you can tackle any trail with confidence.

Fit great, feel great. I normally run in Escalante 2.0, put on the Lone Peak 4.5 (same size), and went for an 8 mile rocky trail run, and my feet felt great afterwards.
So far so good! Love the roomy toe box for sure. Run true to size - first pair of Altra's for me - no complaints. Highly recommend tons of grip.
I bought these for an upcoming backpacking trip. I usually wear a women's size 10, but I have wide, high volume feet. Even the men's 8.5 was a tad snug across my instep, so I sized up to a men's 9. I have taken them for a couple training walks with my pack, and they feel great. No friction points, good flexibility, and enough ground feel - without rocks poking my feet. I grabbed a pair of Swiftwick socks in store, and they are also fantastic.
I have a lot of problems with my feet. One was crushed by a horse, and the other by a golf cart. I hike several miles a day, and my feet always hurt! Since I bought these shoes I'm pain free! I can't recommend them enough. I will definitely buy more when these wear out in a few months :)
I can get shoes from any website, but Fleet Feet Spokanes stellar customer service makes it essential for me to purchase from them. They are always friendly and eager to help make the best decision on shoes to a running watch. They are passionate about what they do. I hope they are able to continue going!
