After a stellar debut, Altra redesigned the Escalante 2.0 to maintain a great fit but boost the ride.
Designers increased the decoupling of the Altra EGO midsole and outsole to improve the shoe’s flexibility, and they added a new knit upper that has more perforations for increased breathability. The shoe keeps its signature Altra Footshape toe box, but the new upper gives it a more secure fit.
The refreshed Altra Escalante 2.0 still sports the classic fit and function you want but subtle tweaks make it more capable than ever.

The Escalante 2.0 is lightweight, extremely comfortable (coming from a big fan of minimalist shoes), and seems to have the right amount of cushioning. I haven't taken them on a long run yet, but I've put 15 miles on them total so far, and I can't say I'm disappointed at all. Coming from the Altra Solstice, I found these a bit more narrow, personally, but that may just be my flat feet. There's still enough room, but not as much as the Solstice or Merrell Trail Gloves, for example.
As always, Fleet Feet provided fantastic shoes with personal service. My local store in Wilmington, NC no longer had these due to new models coming out. So they pointed me to buy them online. Altras Escalantes are comfy shoes for by ultra training. I can only get about 200 miles out of them before they begin to degrade, which is disappointing. However, they last longer than other brands and their zero-raise feature helps me maintain my form (I forget the real name for that feature). Grab a pair, and buy local.
These are by far better than the 1.0. I only run 2x per week or so, but I think they are a fantastic shoe.
Great service from fleet feet and great shoe from Altra!!!
When combined with the fleet feet insole, they feel like they are custom made for my feet. Very comfortable!
