Black Girls RUN!

Since 2009, Black Girls RUN! (BGR!) has encouraged Black women to make fitness and healthy living a priority. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 80 percent of Black women are overweight. BGR! focuses on programming, resources and community built around running with the goal of lowering that percentage.

2023 Achievements

BGR! spent 2023 growing their reach and empowering more women. Their achievements include:

  • Hosted five BGR! Nation national meetups
  • Hosted the 3rd annual Share the Run Challenge with Fleet Feet
  • Launched Sweat With Your Sole: On the Road in five cities
  • Launched our Sole Sista brand ambassador program with 25 women
  • Launched new groups in Fredericksburg, VA and Louisville, KY (hosted by Fleet Feet)
  • Relaunched the Little Rock, AR group after a five year hiatus (hosted by Fleet Feet)
  • Hosted the 4th annual eRace Racism virtual challenge and 3rd Annual Spring virtual challenge
  • Selected as a 2024 Boston Marathon and Chicago Marathon charity partner
  • Renewed national partnerships with Core Power and Ultima
  • Received grants from Virginia Capital Trail Foundation, Richmond Roadrunners, Ironman Foundation, Honeystinger, Boston Running Collective and Atrium Health & Navicent Health Foundation
  • Launched the BGR! Ambassador Alumni Network
