Cold temperatures, scarce daylight and slushy terrain can make winter running feel like a drag. Having a race on the calendar might be the motivation you need to lace up your shoes and get out there. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite winter races for 2022, from 5Ks to trail ultras and everything in between.

Run for Your Heart 5K/10K

February 12, 2022

Stuart, FL

10K, 5K

A February race doesn’t sound so frigid when it’s in South Florida. The 15th annual Run for Your Heart 5K and 10K takes place in the scenic coastal town of Stuart, Florida. Average temperatures in February are typically around 60 degrees - perfect for running! Proceeds from the race will benefit the Cleveland Clinic’s Martin Health Foundation.

Wilmington Marathon

Wilmington, NC

26.2, 13.1, 5K, 1 mile

The Wilmington Marathon weekend is filled with races of all distances, from a one mile kid’s run to the full 26.2. The full and half marathon take place on a flat, scenic course, perfect for earning a new PR. If you’re not quite ready to tackle the marathon on your own, a 26.2 mile relay allows you to conquer the distance with friends. Race day weather is typically between 40 and 60 degrees.

Augusta Half Marathon

13.1, 10K, 5K

The Augusta Half Marathon runs through downtown Augusta, past historical landmarks and along the Augusta University campus. This charming southern city shows off its beautiful neighborhoods and scenic trails during race weekend, which features a 10K and 5K along with the half marathon. February temperatures in Augusta usually range from 40 to 60 degrees.

The Marathon of the Treasure Coast is a favorite amongst local runners as well as out-of-towners looking for a sunny runcation. The marathon and half marathon start in downtown Stuart and wind through beautiful coastal neighborhoods and over the St. Lucie River. Runners will enjoy a mostly flat course, minus a couple of bridges, and mild weather.

March 12-13 2022

Sacramento, CA

13,1, 10K, 5K, 5K, Kids Race

Get in the festive spirit at the Shamrock’n Half Marathon, held the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day. Runners can choose between the 5K or 10K race on Saturday or the Half Marathon on Sunday. If you’re feeling ambitious, sign up for the Doubleheader - run one of the Saturday races and come back for the half marathon on Sunday. All races start and finish at the Sutter Health Park, home of the Sacramento River Cats.

Heart Mini-Marathon & Walk

Cincinnati, OH

13.1, 15K, 5K

The Heart Mini-Marathon and Walk provides runners with the opportunity to log some miles while supporting the American Heart Association. Participants can raise funds individually or as a team. The half marathon, 15K and 5K courses run along Columbia Parkway next to the Ohio River. If you’re hoping to earn a new PR, there will be pace groups available for both the half marathon and 15K.

Harrisburg, PA

4 Miler

The annual Lucky Charm Race is a favorite amongst Harrisburg runners. Held the weekend after St. Patrick’s Day, it’s the perfect chance to continue your festivities. The four mile course runs through Downtown Harrisburg with a quick detour over the Market Street Bridge to City Island, showcasing scenic views of the Susquehanna River. This year, participants can choose to participate individually or as a team.

Chuckanut 50K

Bellingham, Washington

If trail running is your jam, the Chuckanut 50K is the perfect place to test your endurance while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the Pacific Northwest. The race starts and finishes at Fairhaven Park, with a major ascent up the Chuckanut Mountain Ridge during the middle of the course. Five aid stations are positioned throughout the course to keep you going.
