As temperatures slowly rise and the first few tendrils of green replace the winter gloom, it’s the perfect time to get outside and get moving. What better way to motivate yourself than by adding a new race to the calendar? To help you choose, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite spring races in 2022.

The Andrew Jackson Marathon is Tennessee’s oldest marathon, and this year is its 50th anniversary. The marathon is a double loop course that winds around Jackson, showing off historical neighborhoods and southern hospitality. Half marathoners run the loop once. With gentle rolling hills and typically mild weather, this race is perfect for first-time marathoners or hopeful Boston Qualifiers. Plus, the race will pay the 2023 Boston Marathon entry fees for the first three male and female Boston Qualifiers to finish!

Flower City Challenge

April 24, 2022

Rochester, NY

13.1, 5K

After stocking up on swag at the Fleet Feet Rochester expo, explore the city on foot with a USATF certified half marathon and 5K. The half marathon and 5K start at 7:30 and 7:45 respectively at Blue Cross Arena. Wind through historic city streets and charming residential areas, witnessing firsthand the floral elegance that earned the nickname “The Flower City.” Make it a family event with the kids’ half mile race or 13.1 program, where children sign up to run or walk 13.1 miles over the course of three weeks.

Flying Pig Marathon

Cincinnati, OH

26.2, 13.1, 10K, 5K, 1 mile

The Flying Pig Marathon Weekend is Cincinnati’s largest running event, drawing visitors from across the country. The Flying Pig theme is amped up to the max, with corrals called “pig pens,” a finish line dubbed the “finish swine,” and ample spectators cheering in pig costumes. The weekend kicks off with a 1 mile race on Friday night, followed by the 5K and 10K on Saturday and the half and full marathon on Sunday. The weekend even features a “Flying Fur” race, where participants run with their dogs. The half and full marathon courses are notoriously hilly, but the enthusiastic crowd support and pig-themed swag make it worth it.

Mountain Goat Run

Syracuse, NY

10 miles

Conquer the hills of Syracuse at the 2022 Mountain Goat Run. What originally started as a group fun run around the city has transformed into an iconic event drawing over a thousand finishers annually. The ten mile race starts and finishes at Clinton Square and takes runners through some of the highest points in Syracuse. At the end, runners can proudly claim their Mountain Goat status, joining the list of notable finishers such as Jeff Wells and Jeff Galloway.

Windermere Marathon

May 15, 2022

Spokane, Washington

26.2, 13.1, 10K, 5K

Experience the breathtaking beauty of the Pacific Northwest at the Windermere Marathon in Spokane. Choose your challenge with a marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K options. Both the full and half marathon travel the Centennial Trail and finish in Riverfront Park, providing a flat and fast course with views of the Spokane River. The 5K and 10K are out and back courses, starting and finishing in Riverfront Park. Race organizers are offering a 15% off discount with the code RUNWINDERMERE.

Dreamin’ of the Keys 5K

Port St. Lucie, FL

5K

Channel the energy of the Florida Keys at the Dreamin’ of the Keys 5K, where spectators and participants are encouraged to wear their tackiest beach themed outfits. The race starts and finishes on Meeting Street in Port St. Lucie’s Tradition Square and winds through residential neighborhoods and around Butterfly Park. The race starts at 6:30 p.m., so you’ll be able to bask in the Florida sunset at the post-race party.
