Our Favorite Recovery Sandals

A women runs on a trail through the woods

There’s no feeling quite like kicking your feet up after a long run (or a long day at work). But sometimes life doesn’t let you quit the hustle.

So, when you still have dinner to make, dishes to clean and kids to get into bed, you need another option to soothe your dogs. That’s where recovery slides and sandals come in.

Oofos and Superfeet make recovery footwear to aid your body after a hard day. By stuffing them with squishy foam and sculpting them to relieve pressure, these recovery sandals give your muscles and joints a few hours off.

So next time you have a long day ahead, leave these sandals at the front door or in your car for an instant pick-me-up.

You want your running shoes to return energy to your feet each time you hit the ground. You don’t want the same thing from recovery shoes.

Oofos makes the Oolala sandal with the company’s OOfoam cushioning technology. Oofos says the closed-cell foam absorbs 37 percent more impact than traditional EVA foam, which means less impact on your muscles and joints.

We love the squishy foam in the Oolala. The foam feels softer than other shoes we’ve tried but it never bottoms out or feels sloppy, and it provides enough resistance to give the shoe top-notch arch support.

Plus, the Oolala comes in a bunch of fun colors and a slide version, so we were happy to wear these on quick errands around town.

The Superfeet Aftersport Slide in black

Superfeet Aftersport Slide

Insole maker Superfeet sculpted the Aftersport Slide to mimic the shape of an orthotic insert.

Superfeet’s Aerosoft foam gives the Aftersport its cushion. The foam compresses just enough to soften your footsteps, but it provides excellent structure that doesn’t get crushed under you weight. The structure lends the shoe excellent arch support and a comfortable footbed.

The slide construction makes it easy to slip on after a hard workout, even with socks on, and the durable polyurethane material holds its shape and makes it easy to clean.

We wore these babies on the car ride to the trail head, left them on the driver’s seat and then slipped them back on for the ride home. Walking around in them after a tough run relieves tight feet and calms cranky calves.
