Brian Metzler

Writer, editor, donkey racer

In our stable of runners and writers, Brian stands out. Yes, he’s an accomplished athlete: He’s raced just about every distance from 50 meters to 100 miles, and he is a three-time Ironman finisher. But Brian also races with donkeys. Brian got into the quirky sport of pack burro racing more than a decade ago and now careens through the Colorado mountains leashed to a four-legged friend.

Brian is the founding editor of “Trail Runner” magazine and the former editor of “Competitor.” He also co-authored the book, “Run Like a Champion: An Olympians Approach for Every Runner.”
